How it works

Three taps. No setup. Just your photo and an answer.

Step 1

Snap any old object

A clear photo of the object — and a maker's mark, signature, or label if you can find one.

Step 2

AI examines

Google's Gemini vision model checks era, category, materials, marks, style, and condition.

Step 3

Get a value range

Conservative low–high market value, era, origin, signals it used, and a clear next step.

What it appraises

Anything you might find at a thrift store, estate sale, garage sale, or in an attic.

Ceramics & glass

Vases, plates, decanters, art glass, studio pottery — marks, glazes, and shapes pin the era.

Watches & jewelry

Vintage watches, signet rings, costume vs. fine jewelry, hallmarks, and stone identification.

Furniture

Mid-century chairs, Victorian dressers, country pine, joinery and hardware tell the story.

Art & prints

Oils, watercolors, signed prints, posters — signature recognition and likely period.

Books & ephemera

First editions, vintage maps, postcards, magazines — what makes a copy worth more than $20.

Toys & memorabilia

Vintage toys, action figures, comics, sports cards — condition and rarity drive value.

Frequently asked questions

How does Sherloot estimate value from a photo?
Sherloot uses Google's Gemini vision AI to identify the object's category, era, and likely origin from visible details — materials, marks, style, condition. It then gives a conservative market value range based on what comparable items typically sell for in average condition.
Is this a real appraisal?
No. Sherloot gives you a quick hint, not a professional appraisal. For anything potentially valuable, get a real appraiser to confirm before you buy, sell, or insure.
Is Sherloot free?
Yes. Your first 3 appraisals are completely free. After that, an optional Pro subscription unlocks up to 300 appraisals per day.
What kinds of objects can Sherloot identify?
Furniture, ceramics, glass, jewelry, watches, coins, stamps, paintings, prints, books, vintage toys, lamps, tools, instruments, tableware, memorabilia — anything you might find at a thrift store, estate sale, or in an attic.
Does Sherloot store my photos?
Yes. When you are signed in we store the photo and the appraisal on our servers so you can see your history across devices and so we can investigate wrong appraisals you flag. You can delete individual entries, clear all history, or delete your account from the app's Settings screen. Photos are never used to train AI models.
How do I find out what an old item is worth?
Open Sherloot, take a clear photo of the item in good lighting, and tap Appraise. The AI identifies the object, estimates its era and origin, and gives you a rough eBay market value range.
Can Sherloot identify coins and stamps?
Yes. Sherloot covers coins, stamps, jewelry, watches, ceramics, glass, paintings, books, toys, furniture, and more. It works best with a close-up photo showing any markings or details.
Is this thrift store find worth anything?
Snap a photo with Sherloot and find out in seconds. The AI tells you if it's a genuine vintage piece or a common reproduction, and gives a conservative value range so you know whether to buy.
